Is Jasper Worth the Cost or is ChatGPT Enough?

ChatGPT and Jasper are revolutionizing content marketing-but which tool comes out on top?

With the rise of content writing AI taking over the content marketing and copywriting landscape for the foreseeable future, most writers are looking to AI to help them produce work more efficiently. And for good reason. While all these services are in their infancy, they offer a simple solution for writers looking to improve their workflow.  Although many different AI writing tools are currently available: Writesonic, Copy.ai, CopySmith, the two most popular AI tools to date are openAI’s ChatGPT and Jasper.ai. So which profrom should you choose, Jasper or ChatGPT?

Jasper is ChatGPT

The key to choosing between the software that people aren’t talking about? Jasper.ai, is ChatGPT. Allow me to explain. When people mention ChatGPT, they’re talking about the free version of ChatGPT, which operates on the GPT-3.5 language model and is available to the general public. Jasper is built on the same language model as this standard ChatGPT. However, a paid version of ChatGPT is available in ChatGPT Plus that operates on the GPT-4 language model. GPT-4 is the more powerful evolution of GPT-3.5 and is said to be ten times more advanced.

GPT-4 can:

  • Solve more complex problems that GPT-3.5 cannot
  • Identify local accents and dialects
  • Recognize the emotion of the text
  • Analyze images and provide human-like feedback
  • Produce content quicker and more accurately

What’s the difference between ChatGPT and Jasper?

The difference between Jasper and ChatGPT is that Jasper is built with marketing in mind. It offers added features like keyword integration, brand voice integration, and writing templates that can expedite the content writing process. These added features culminate in Jasper’s $49 monthly price tag. Basically, Jasper is an altered version of ChatGPT meant specifically for content writers.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT has many more use cases such as:

  • Summarizing content
  • Solving math equations
  • Writing short lines of code

Notably, there is a feature called chat included in Jasper subscriptions that is basically the same as standard ChatGPT. ChatGPT is more akin to a virtual assistant and by default, it’s in a conversational style rather than functioning purely as a content generator.

ChatGPT is not the most reliable

ChatGPT can perform the same standard functions as Jasper, plus it’s free. So here’s the biggest reason some opt to invest in Jasper (other than the marketing-specific features): because ChatGPT is available for free to the masses, so many people are on it at one time that the servers can commonly reach max capacity, prompting a screen that forces you to standby while the servers cool down. Jasper solves this issue by being available at all times.

Is ChatGPT Plus the middle ground?

As mentioned earlier, ChatGPT Plus is the new and improved version of the standard ChatGPT. And for a monthly subscription of $20, it’s all yours. Unfortunately, according to buyers and Reddit users, the consensus isn’t clear whether the payment is justified. For starters, you’re still limited by how often you can use the tool, as you’re capped at 25 messages every 3 hours. And to make things worse, the content writing capabilities don’t seem to differ all that much from the free version. On the bright side, users note that programming capabilities seem to have improved and overall production speed seems to be up.

It’s your choice

To circle back to the question at hand, is Jasper worth the cost or is ChatGPT enough? So while ChatGPT is more powerful as it’s more advanced and built on a larger database in ChatGPT Plus, Jasper might still be superior for content writing purposes as it has templates and different tools available that make the content creation process more streamlined. Overall, if you’re a writer looking to expedite your writing process, you should use your own discretion to decide if these AI tools will benefit your writing.

AI is not replacing humans just yet

It should also be noted that for those who think these AI tools are replacing copywriters-you’re certainly mistaken. While these tools can expedite the marketing process for trained writers, don’t expect them to produce award-winning writing. As it stands, these tools can only produce generic regurgitations of data collected from the internet. This can be useful for certain writers who want a rough framework to work off of to craft a creative marketing piece. Basically, AI writing tools are to content writers what Photoshop was to graphic designers. Graphic design never became obsolete-it became more efficient.
